DAY 01: ARRIVAL AT KILIMANJARO AIRPORT
Arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, you will be met by our office representative/driver-guide after a short briefing and then transferred to Moshi for lunch, dinner, and overnight stay at Moyoni airport lodge.
DAY 2: MARANGU ROUTE – MANDARA HUT.
After breakfast, you will be met by your head guide. Drive to Marangu gate to Mandara Hut, 8 km hike starting at 1,860m and ending at 2,700m. After registration, begin trekking through lush undisturbed forest where you may be lucky enough to see Colobus monkeys. It is known as the “Coca-Cola” route. The path gradually climbs to your camp at Mandara Huts, a trek taking approximately 4 to 5 hours, offering shared, basic hut accommodation with mattresses and pillows Mandara Huts is a group of wooden A-framed huts in a forest clearing. Each hut features 6-8 sleeping bunks with solar generated lighting.
DAY 3: MANDARA HUT – HOROMBO HUT
From Mandara Hut the trail climbs steeply through a short stretch of forest, soon emerging into grassy moorland. On a clear day, you will catch your first glimpse of Kibo, the summit cone of Kilimanjaro, and the jagged second peak Mawenzi. Climb steadily through the moorland zone, containing giant heather and occasional groundsel which can reach heights of up to 5 meters. After around 4 to 6 hours walking today you will reach the hut complex at Horombo where you will have hot washing water, dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: HOROMBO – ZEBRA ROCKS AND BACK TO HOROMBO
Acclimatization day. This extra day and night will aid your acclimatization and is therefore very important in preparation for your summit attempt. The day will be spent hiking towards the seldom visited base of Mawenzi Peak, passing Zebra Rocks en route. The landscape feels more alpine here and there is a greater sense of peacefulness than in other locations on this route. Trekking time approximately 4 to 5 hours.
DAY 5: HOROMBO -ARUSHA TOWN
After breakfast, finish the trek with a descent to Marangu Gate. Your last hike on Kilimanjaro is a beautiful one, passing through Kilimanjaro’s cloud forest. You will receive your certificates at the Gate and have a chance to bid farewell with your porters and guides. At the gate, you will be met and transferred back to Arusha for dinner and overnight stay at Lodge in Arusha.
DAY 6: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Early wake-up after breakfast and departure for Tarangire National Park with a picnic lunch. This park experiences numerous migratory movements and is home to a vast ecosystem. The park runs along the Tarangire River and consists mainly of low hills at the bottom of a wide valley. Its natural vegetation is primarily composed of acacia forests and giant African baobabs, with extensive marshy areas. After the game drive, dinner and overnight stay at karatu.
DAY 7: NGORONGORO CRATER –DEPARTURE
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we descend into this magnificent crater for a game drive with a picnic lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely populated African wildlife reserves in the world and is home to approximately 30,000 animals, including some of the last black rhinos in Tanzania. At 8,300 km², the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest volcanic caldera in the world and arguably the most impressive site. Later in the day, later in the day after picnic lunch you will drive back to Arusha for your flight back home.
